On Memorial Day weekend we are called to re-count heroism and sacrifice in both the distant past and in the current era.  It is a religious act – indeed, an interfaith act – to witness, remember, and find our own courage as we remember.

How Do We Want to Be Counted?

The beginning of the Book of Numbers contains instructions for taking a census of the Israelites.  The Hebrew for “to take a census” literally means “to lift up the head.”  That is, each person has to be recognized as an individual.  How does each of us want to be recognized for what we do to change the world after the coronavirus pandemic?
