As the calendar year turns over to 2015, I can say that I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of year, as in “the first year in a new job.” The sharp learning curve of the first few months has given way to observation and reflection on what is working well at our school, and what areas we can improve. People have told me one needs the whole year to really feel comfortable in a new position, which must be the case as I am always experiencing new activities and programs that follow the Jewish calendar cycle.

And it’s not too early to start thinking about next school year! I thank the temple for sending me to LimmudBoston at the beginning of December where I was able to meet other religious school educators and explore some new and exciting ideas. With teacher input, the Education Committee and I have already begun discussing how we can make our school even more engaging for our students. You can add your voice to the discussion by sending me an email at directorofeducation@temple-etzchaim.org about your vision for our school. Looking forward to hearing from you!
