Shabbat Shirah, the Sabbath of Song, commemorates Miriam and Moses leading the people in song as they celebrated freedom from Egyptian slavery. This year, Shabbat Shirah coincides with the holiday remembering Martin Luther King Jr., and the struggle for civil rights and freedom for all, especially African Americans.
